    • Have been conducting research to design/develop mobile embedded applicaions/middleware components and to obtain the corresponding IPRs
  • Research on Optimal Replica Selection Technique and Data Virtualization Technique (Spring 2005 to Fall 2005)
    • Developed a storage virtualization component based on generic disks and implemented a grid storage middleware standard to construct mass storage systems
  • N-Project (Summer 2004 to Winter 2005)
    • Developed next generation mobile phones with multimedia and security capabilities
  • SMASH 1.0 (Fall 2003 to Spring 2004)
    • Developed next generation S/W Suite for mobile phones with an emphasis on multimedia and security
  • Improving Link-State Routing via Information Dynamics (Fall 2000 to present)
    • Have been developing techniques to improve routing quality and reduce the overhead by considering the temporal dynamics of expected link-delay information and its usefulness

  • Improving E-Commerce Systems via Information Dynamics (Fall 2000)
    • Studied the impact of advertisement by considering the temporal dynamics of sales information
  • Performance Prediction System (Summer 2000)
    • Developed a simulation system that predicts the performance of an application based on specifications
  • Dynamic Parameter Selection (Fall 1999 to Spring 2000)
    • Enhanced application performance by finding and using a near-best parameter assignment at runtime, and demonstrated the effectiveness of this selection methodology for Web servers and scientific applications

  • Efficient Performance Prediction (Fall 1997 to Summer 1999)
    • Developed a family of simulators for I/O-intensive applications, and a methodology to select the most efficient simulator based on a user-supplied requirement for accuracy
  • LBF: A Performance Metric for Program Reorganization (Spring 1995 to Summer 1998)
    • Developed a performance metric to assist programmers with evaluating different tuning alternatives, and demonstrated its effectiveness by implementing it with PARADYN and showing that it can predict the performance of distributed/parallel applications for different process assignments to processors and for different networks

  • Procedure LBF: A Code Migration Metric (Spring 1998)
    • Developed a performance metric to evaluate different tuning alternatives of workload migration, and showed the effectiveness of this metric implemented with PARADYN on a client/server database system based on the Wisconsin SHORE storage manager

  • PARADYN Support for Trace-Data Streams (Fall 1996)
    • Developed PARADYN support based on a dynamic tracing model for the computation of user-defined metrics with trace-data streams

  • Instrumentation of UDP/IP Protocol Stacks (Spring 1996)
    • Measured resource requirements on SunOS for MPEG streams of data using MULTIKRON timers
  • PARADYN Support for Enhanced MDL (Fall 1995)
    • Developed PARADYN support for its enhanced MDL (Metric Definition Language)
  • Dynamic vs. Static Instrumentation (Spring 1995)
    • Compared the performance of dynamic and static instrumentation techniques on PVM for the computation of a metric using the ACTIVE MESSAGE model

  • Database Recovery System (Spring 1995 to Summer 1995)
    • Implemented a client/server database rollback system based on ARIES
  • Video Teleconferencing (Fall 1994)
    • Studied the data-copy-number-reducing technique used to enhance the QoS of a Video Teleconferencing system on IBM RS/6000s equipped with prototype hardware for video/audio processing, and connected via ATM links

  • Relational Database System (Spring 1994)
    • Implemented a relational database system that automates the administrative functions of a hospital, using Ingres
