Objectives [top]

Goal
This course gives a practical introduction to system software. A computer system consists of hardware, system software, and application software. The task of the system software is to efficiently and safely execute programs written in a machine language on given hardware while other programs are also running. We will thus cover operating systems' system software, I/O and file management, network and web programming. We will be "learning by doing", consequently a big part of this lecture are programming exercises and projects which may require a considerable amount of time and effort.
